Top Study Tips

Nolands is not only a professional practice, it is also a learning environment where our trainees grapple with study challenges every day. We have tried to find the tips that you may not have thought about before and thrown in a few of our own.

So we think we don’t have to tell you about things like taking regular breaks, make to do lists, drink water, look after your health, get enough sleep etc… we’re sure you’ll know most of that by now.

Here are some of the important things we’ve learnt about how to study…

Homework is different to studying

You’ll know the feeling. You’re full of good intentions, you sit down with all your stuff and …. Now what? Whereas with homework you get going and you find it easy to crack on and get it done. So what’s the difference? They’re actually two very distinct, separate tasks. Homework commonly consists of assignments that teachers assign to be completed at home. The idea of homework assignments is to reinforce the knowledge that you learn in the classroom. These assignments allow for extra practice, so that you can refine your skills and knowledge in a particular area. Studying, on the other hand, refers to the time students spend on their own to go over material they learned in class. Many students think of studying as what they do to prepare for an exam; however, it is best to set aside regular time to study to be sure you understand all the concepts you are learning in class so you do not fall behind.
